If you haven't yet watched Yellowstone, you need to. Beth Dutton shows us what it means to emerge from the trauma of patriarchal oppression. Warning: spoiler alert.

Hi Kelly, thank you so much for your feedback :-) I have been enamored with Beth for months, ever since I discovered Yellowstone. She represents something vital within the fabric of our society. Your work with her character is extraordinary - thank you on behalf of all women, for showing us how to meet our challenges with bones of steel and a heart of tarnished gold. I would love you to share the post on your Instagram https://www.instagram.com/drmelissagilbert/
Thank you Kelly for giving this character such life! It's amazing to witness your range from Poldark, to Pride & Prejudice, to Sherlock.... I sit forward and grin every time you hit a one of those lines that leave a "mark". We cannot wait to take in more!
All my best, Sandy
(If you do happen to read this... What has been your favorite scene thus far?)
I hope this is sent to Kelly Reilly because I want you to know what a beautiful & talented actress you are!! I nearly died when I heard your real accent & can't believe how you transform into Beth!! You are my idol as you probably are with millions of other women! I rarely watch tv but I became addicted to Yellowstone after about the first 3 episodes!! I hope you can see the comments made in the Yellowstone fan club. I want Yellowstone to continue FOREVER!
This is such a brilliant insight into a character that so many people just see on the surface. I have felt for four years the strength, pain, and fierce love that guide this complex character. Thank you for writing something that I could never have said so adroitly ..but understand completely
Beth is my favorite character ever written. I can completely relate to her. Yellowstone writers have done a marvelous job or explaining her trauma behind her behavior. She does give me hope no matter your lot in life we can always prevail. I can't wait to see her arch in Season 5. Thank you Kelly for bringing her to life and your amazing job portraying her. Thank you Melissa for showcasing her.
Love Beth she has balls of steel ! When I grow up I want to be Beth , love her character and is needed to see women represented as strong 💪🏻 and ballsy ! Loving it ! Go Beth your my hero! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Very well written and very accurate characterization as I interpret Beth. I too feel Kelly plays Beth with the attention to detail and in a way women are either wanting to be her or cheering her on. Love this❤️
Thank you so much for this Melissa. I have read this a few times thinking of what I could add, but you have described Beth and how I feel about her so beautifully and perfectly. Kelly Reilly is absolutely brilliant. No one else could play Beth, but her. Please thank your daughter (she has great taste!) for me for introducing you to Beth. Without her, we may not have had this fantastic post.
That is such an amazing thing to say - thank you so much for that feedback. The one fault line I didn't explore was what is left in Beth after her mother dies, and the circumstances around that. My thoughts aren't fully formed but I will write about it when they are. Thanks again, Melissa.
I agree. I can’t completely wrap my thoughts on that up. I would love for someone more articulate to weigh in.
Her mother didn’t seem all that great to me. Her mother made her go on the ride, which maybe was her mother’s birthday according to a flashback with John? Kayce was being rowdy on his own horse. Then Evelyn chose to make Beth go for help, made sure to blame her, then made Kayce stay with her and watch her die. Somehow, the rest of her life the blame has been kept on only Beth’s shoulders by her own family. And yet Beth will stop at nothing to protect the ranch, because she feels indebted to her father for being the one to take away his wife. It’s all so interesting!

I feel that Beth is often so misunderstood. It’s really refreshing when people actually understand the character of Beth, which Kelly Reilly does a phenomenal job portraying. So much of the character isn’t in the words she says (which people love the dialogue), but it’s all right there on the screen (on Kelly’s face and in her eyes) if you’re paying attention. So, I appreciate someone not just thinking Beth is a bad ass, but understanding her on a deeper level.
And really, can someone tell me how they would honestly react if that were their life? It’s TV, it’s entertainment, but there are people who suffer in real life, so even as a character it would be nice if people would try to walk a mile in Beth’s shoes before they declare her as anything that isn’t multidimensional. End of my rant. Thanks for that.
I am fan of the bad ass birch archetypetgat is Beth but it is Rip that ultimately saves her either from her own self destructive ways or those of men . Rip doeswith compassion and patience or out right rage and ultra violence.

Thank you! Yes I felt these sentiments strongly, hence the motivation. At the end of every episode we take a big sigh and say "...we love Beth."
