This self-narration has been weaponised by a system that wants to retain the status quo. How dare I think I can write a book about women rising above it, especially when I believe it myself.

I get this on so many personal levels. I’d like to say all writers would but I’m not sure that’s true. The writing (the initial writing is the exhilarating bit for me, when the creative flow is at work to the point the inner critic takes a back seat) -> publishing process can be excruciating, but those of us who received the messages you (and I) did as girls have a more treacherous journey to see it to the end. It’s one reason that I have a novel and a memoir through the lens of death, buried, smothering, that haven’t been let out to be inhaled by others. Well done you for feeling the feelings and laying it on the page. I feel less alone in my process for it. Thank you.
